Project on Botnet Detection

In recent years Botnet has emerged as a huge threat to network security with lots of negative effects like DDoS, Spamming etc. Consequently, numerous research activities are going on for botnet detection and mitigation. However, recent bots are easy to customize, modular, adaptive and much more targetable than ever before. They are moving to a more decentralized approach and diversifying their C&C techniques. Moreover, because of modular design of bots, detection and mitigation of botnets have become ever more complex. Therefore, our project is all about developing a on-line and generalized detection mechanism, that can detect Botnets irrespective of C&C channels being used.

About SMIT

The Sikkim Manipal Institute of Technology was established in 1997 as a constituent college of Sikkim Manipal University and is approved by AICTE. SMIT has the distinction of prestigious accredition for engineering disciplines by National Board of Accredation(NBA)/ACCR-860/06 dated 22nd January, 2008. SMIT has ISO 9001 accredation vide NS-EN ISO9001:2000 for all its courses. The engineering college has its own campus at Majitar, Rangpo East Sikkim. The Institute's location on the bank of river Teesta, surrounded by green hills, adds to the vibrancy of the campus and makes it a ideal place for learning.
